Welsh stick Chairs with Andy D. glenn

At Rowan, we value keeping our skills sharp, and always learning and growing. That’s why we took a team trip to Waldoboro, Maine this summer to take a Windsor chair-making class with the inimitable furniture maker Andy D Glenn.

From our foreman to our drafter to our communications specialist, our whole team gathered Downeast for five days of hands-on-lessons with Andy, building connections and chairs from hand. We split logs, skewed & sliced, and got hours of practice with block planes, spoke shaves, and draw knives.

Because we needed to give our hands and backs a rest every now and then, we took some trips to the Ocean and hunted down some excellent blueberry pie.

Top it all off with an epic behind-the-scenes tour of Lie Nielsen Toolworks, and we couldn’t ask for a better way to spend a week of summer.
