This 1960’s Catskills Chalet Receives a Sleek Update

Custom kitchen cabinetry for a young couple in upstate New York.

For this young couple, the decision to dive into renovating this 1963 cottage came on quicker than anticipated. The couple purchased the property just before the pandemic hit and shortly thereafter, they knew their upstate “weekend getaway” home would serve as a more permanent living environment. First things first, the kitchen needed some big changes.

The original kitchen was boxed out from the rest of the living space with wood paneling, yellow walls, and laminated countertops. The couple’s vision was to knock down the walls, exposing the high vaulted ceilings, and create a more functional kitchen with a mid-century-inspired look.

Starting with a collaborative mood boarding process, our team at Rowan worked closely with the owners through a series of design renderings and prototyping to get it just right. Landing on custom integrated edge pulls, the resulting cabinet design is sleek and functional.
